Irminsul 282 With Basket Chain - Silver

Carefully crafted jewelry pendant "Irminsul" with matching black and silver basket chain made of 925 sterling silver. The elegant necklace is about 1.5 mm thick and partially oxidized. We offer three different lengths: 45 cm, 55 cm and 65 cm. The pendant is partially blackened on the front, so that the artistic design comes into its own. Dimensions: approx. 34 mm high x approx. 20 mm wide Inner dimensions of the eyelet: approx. 6 mm high x approx. 5 mm wide Weight: approx. 5 g Meaning of the symbol: The Irminsul was the highest sanctuary of the pagan Saxons in the early Middle Ages. The name roughly translates to "great pillar". Researchers suspect that this column was a vertically erect tree trunk that was supposed to support the whole universe. More details are not known, because Charlemagne destroyed the sanctuary in 772. Nevertheless, the Irmin Column is often interpreted as a world tree and thus associated with the tree of life Yggdrasil.
