Description

Saflax - Iceland poppy mix - Papaver nudicaule - 8000 seeds - Frost-resistant Nordic beauty down to - 40° Celsius. Our cultivation set contains everything you need for successful cultivation. An English mini greenhouse (17 (L) x 10 (W) x 13 (H) cm), germ-free dried coconut fiber substrate, 2 pots, pricking rod and plant sign. Worth knowing: Poppies are considered to be extremely delicate and sensitive. However, this is not the case for the Icelandic poppy. It is extremely robust and prefers cool temperatures. The color spectrum of the subarctic beauty extends from yellow to white to bright orange-red. Icelandic poppy is the ideal plant for gardens or containers that should not require constant care. The plant is hardly used medicinally anymore, although it used to be valued as a source of vitamin C against scurvy in the cold north.. Natural Place: The Icelandic poppy originally comes from the subarctic zone. It is found in Siberia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia, but also in northern Europe and northwestern Canada and Alaska. There it inhabits altitudes between 300 and about 2,500 meters. Cultivation: The fine seeds germinate in the light and are therefore only lightly pressed into the moist cultivation substrate and are not covered with soil. You can sow Icelandic poppies directly outdoors from March to April or in September, because these poppies only germinate when it is not too warm. It takes about two to three weeks to germinate. If the seedlings are too dense later, you can thin them out to a distance of 20 to 30 centimeters. Since Iceland poppies do not tolerate being transplanted later, they can initially be cultivated in small pots and the seedlings can then be placed 20 to 30 centimeters apart. Place: Iceland poppy likes sunny locations, but not too much heat due to its origin. Therefore, avoid places near house walls or walls, as these store a lot of heat. Care: The maintenance effort is very low. If you want to avoid spreading too much, cut off flowers before seed formation. Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage flowering and prolong flowering. You should water the pot daily - in the garden only if the drought lasts longer. During Winter: As a Nordic plant, Papaver nudicaule does not need winter protection and even withstands temperatures down to -40° Celsius unscathed.
